Golden Valley (MN) to Submit $1.7M Bond Request for New Station

Golden Valley (MN) City Council is expected to back a $1.7 million bond request to help build a new fire station to replace two aging buildings, reports ccxmedia.org.

Golden Valley presently has three fire stations with a paid-on-call model for staff, the report says. A study, though, suggested the city move to a two-station, duty-crew model.

City documents note that Stations 2 and 3 are out-of-date and not in ideal locations, the report says. To remedy this, Golden Valley wants to construct a new facility near Highway 100 on its east side.

The plan calls for construction on a potential new station to begin in 2024 or 2025, with Golden Valley submitting another bond request in 2024 for $4.6 million.

Breckenridge (MN) Volunteer Fire Department Gets New Truck

The Breckenridge (MN) Volunteer Fire Department acquired a fire truck—a former military vehicle—in August, and officials say it’s already seen—and performed well in—action, reports wahpetondailynews.com.

The new apparatus, which replaces a 1986 model, has all-wheel drive can travel almost anywhere in the eight townships of Wilkin County the department serves, the report says. It’s already been in use at a brush fire at the city dump, and performed very well, officials say.

The total cost was around $130,000, the report says, and the former apparatus was sold to a construction company.

The new truck has increased water capacity and can pump water and drive at the same time. In addition, it has scene lighting on the back.

The department first purchased the truck cab then had the back features built on. Officials say it was funded through the department’s truck fund, which is supported by the townships they serve.
