Delta County (MI) Fire Departments Receive $1.1M in Donated Equipment

Several fire departments across Delta County (MI) Wednesday received about $1.1 million in donated equipment via the From Our Firehouse to Yours program, reports dailypress.net. The equipment was donated by departments in the Lower Peninsula.

Retired firefighters doled out equipment as they travelled caravan-style in a box truck and three trailers to The Pantry Truck Stop in Rapid River, down Bayshore Drive into Gladstone, and down 9th Street to Lakeshore Drive before coming up to the Besse Fire Hall, the report says.

The program delivers donated fire equipment to departments in need, and this was its seventh delivery in the last five years. All but one of those seven were made to the Upper Peninsula, according to the report. Officials estimate that roughly $5.1 million worth of gear has received new life through the program.

Onset (MA) Firefighters Move into New Fire Station

The Onset (MA) Fire Department officially opened it’s new fire station on September 29, according to a report published by the Wareham Week.

The newspaper reported the new fire station is on Sand Pond Road, behind the old Salvation Army building, leaving the old one empty on East Central Avenue.

According to the newspaper, the new fire station has a few features to make the environment safer for firefighters, including air scrubbers to clean the air where the apparatus are parked and a designated storage area for protective gear to contain contaminants.

Additionally, the new fire station is primarily on one-floor, making the building more accessible, according to the newspaper, which also reported that an open house will be held in the future for the public to view the new building.

Payson (AZ) Scraps Plans to Sell Station 11

The town of Payson (AZ) announced its plans to sell the Main Street fire station ended with the bid process and negotiations concluding sans agreement and Station 11 remaining a town asset, reports paysonroundup.com.

Council recently met in executive session to discuss bids, of which there were many. An October meeting was planned to discuss the sale. However, those plans were scrapped, and the town decided to keep the facility.

The Main Street station is the oldest of Payson’s three—operational since the 1970s, the report says.
