Meet Canada’s ‘Coolest’ Fire Apparatus

Canada’s ‘Coolest’ Fire Truck debuts at Newmarket’s outdoor ice rink this season. Central York (Canada) Fire Services’ newest apparatus Zamboni Z429 stationed at Riverwalk Commons to clear ice and spark fire safety conversations. A BIG THANKS to @Knightworks1 for this amazing design, @Dependable_EV for the fire truck lights and the @NFPA for letting @Sparky_Fire_Dog be a part of this great public education initiative. @TownofNewmarket @ZamboniCompany #Zamboni

Newmarket, Ontario, Wednesday, November 17, 2020 – Central York Fire Services (CYFS) and the Town of Newmarket are excited to unveil the newest apparatus in the fire fleet – Z429 – a Zamboni, wrapped as a fire truck. The machine will be stationed at the outdoor rink at Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) to clear the ice all winter long. This creative campaign aims to break the ice on the fire safety conversation within each family and the wider community.

“Public education for fire safety is our number one priority which is why we’re excited to bring the ‘Coolest Fire Truck in Canada’ to Newmarket’s outdoor rink for the 2021-2022 season,” says Chief Ian Laing. “The pandemic restrictions have made it challenging to truly engage our community and keep fire safety top of mind while everyone is grappling with message overload. Adding Z429 to the fleet gives us an opportunity to meet people of all ages, where they are, in a safe and fun way to spark conversations about fire safety.”

Lynchburg (VA) Fire Department Station 3 to Close for Renovations November 29 – December 27

Beginning Monday, November 29, and continuing through Monday, December 27, Fire Station #3, located at 4701 Fort Avenue, will temporarily close for renovations. The renovations, including a building addition, will include a new kitchen, an updated locker room, and a new training/common area.

During the closure, staff at Station 3 will be temporarily assigned to other City fire stations. According to Fire Chief Greg Wormser, residents living in the areas normally serviced by the Fort Hill station will not see a noticeable difference in response times during the closure.

“We want residents to know that serving the community by protecting lives and property is always our first priority,” he said. “We fully intend to respond to calls consistent with our operations while the station undergoes renovations.”
