Fatal Accident Occurs With Palo Alto Fire Department (CA)

A Palo Alto Fire Department engine suffered major damage in a fatal accident with a box truck, reports CBS San Francisco.

The fire engine was tending to a solo vehicle crash when a driver of a white box truck carrying a load of baked goods struck the fire engine on the left rear portion of vehicle. The fully loaded engine spun counterclockwise upon impact.

The crew immediately went to help the driver. It took them nearly 30 minutes to cut away the wreckage. The driver later died at the hospital. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The damaged $600,000 fire engine was assigned to Station 4. To replace it, Station 4 will have to pull an older truck out of the reserve backup fleet.

A woman riding a moped crashed into a ditch when San Juan Island Fire and Rescue’s Engine 31 Department passed her on a blind hill, reports San Juan Islander.

The county sheriff reports that the fire engine crew did not stop nor report the accident.

The fire engine was responding to a medial call. The fire department has been sending fire engines on aid calls for the past 18 months.

The fire engine came up on two mopeds and one scoot car on the road. The engine crossed the double yellow line, went into the oncoming lane in an area that had limited to no visibility.

An EMS rig stopped and asked the woman if she needed aid. She said she didn’t but would need someone to retrieve the damaged moped.
