Sartell (MN) Fire Department to Take Delivery of $1.2M E-One Platform Before Year’s End

The Sartell (MN) Fire Department is set to take delivery of Tower 21, a $1.2 million E-One Platform truck, this month before placing it in service prior to year’s end.

The apparatus, which will replace the department’s current 1999 ladder truck, is a 100-foot aerial capable of holding several firefighters working from the platform at once, capacity its predecessor did not possess, officials say.

The truck is still being outfitted, and when it arrives it will join two engines, two grass trucks, an air van, two water tenders, and a rescue truck on the department’s fleet.

Dickson County (TN) Municipal Airport Fire Station Approved on First Vote

A facility to house fire apparatus and equipment at the Dickson County (TN) Municipal Airport was approved on first vote by the Dickson County Commission, reports tennesseean.com. If the commission approves in a second vote later this month, bids will likely go out in January.

Construction, which is expected cost upwards of $300,000, was made possible via ARP funds, the report says. State officials say that Dickson County received more than $10.47 million through the Tennessee Resiliency Plan.

Currently, a pumper can be left on airport property and used when first responders arrive.

Firefighters Promote Crash Responder Safety Week

Nearly once every week, a first responder is killed while attempting to clear a roadway accident.

Nov. 8-14, 2021, is Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), and firefighters and paramedics are urging the public to use extreme caution while driving near traffic accidents.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, this initiative is designed to raise public awareness and help keep firefighters, paramedics, other roadway responders, and the public safe.

Firefighters and paramedics work tirelessly to save lives at traffic incident scenes as safely and quickly as possible. Sadly, this dangerous work claims the life of nearly one first responder each week in the United States. Many more sustain life-altering injuries.

The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) is urging motorists to do their part to protect themselves and responders by slowing down, moving over, and staying alert when approaching traffic incidents.

“Firefighters and other emergency responders are on our highways to serve the public and keep us all safe, and they deserve to go home to their families safe and sound. Let’s use this Crash Responder Safety Week to commit to a safer work environment for our firefighters and travelers,” says IAFF General President Edward Kelly.

Responders are also encouraged to stay updated on best practices for staying safe. This national event promotes Slow Down, Move Over law awareness for motorists and free Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training for responders.
