23 Rowan County (NC) Volunteer Fire Departments, Rescue Squad to Receive $1.2M

Each of Rowan County’s (NC) 23 non-municipal fire districts and the Rowan County Rescue Squad will receive $50,000 for a total of $1.2 million, reports salisburypost.com.

The funds will come from the American Rescue Plan, and Rowan County will receive a total of $27 million in installments of $13.5 million this year and next, the report says.

Officials say non-municipal fire districts did not receive previous COVID-19 money that benefited municipal departments; the $1.2 million is aimed at helping them replace revenue lost by not being able to hold fundraisers during the pandemic.

There will be some restrictions on funding, officials say, but there hasn’t yet been any word as to what they are.

Historic Missoula (MT) Rural Fire District Station 4 to be Sold at Public Auction

The Missoula (MT) Rural Fire District’s Station 4 is seen by many as symbolic of its town, Piltzville, and many residents feel that the more-than-50-year-old station is a landmark, reports kpax.com.

The station—the only structure in town that actually says Piltzville—will soon be replaced by a new, bigger, nearby facility in Bonner. The old station will be sold at a public auction, the report says.

The property’s appraised value is $510,000, and 100% of the proceeds will offset the cost of the new fire station in Bonner. According to the report, residents are concerned that the site’s next occupant might be noisy, unattractive, and not in line with the community’s character, according to the report.

The public auction is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2022.
