Lafayette (LA) Fire Department Breaks Ground on Fire Station No. 3

According to a report from The Advocate, the Lafayette (LA) Fire Department (LFD) broke ground on its latest fire station, Fire Station No. 3, with the help of city and construction officials Monday on Cooper Drive.

The original station that sat on the property was built in 1978 and was subsequently demolished in 2020. An LFD press release stated that Fire Station No. 3 will be 7,300 square feet in size and will feature eight sleeping rooms and three truck bays.

Construction is estimated to be $2.5 million. Construction is expected to be completed within a year. Also, the station’s new layout will provide access to Benoit Falgout Drive, allowing LFD members to respond faster to emergencies within the response area.

Coxreels® Product Enhancement for the 1¼” and 1½” SLPL Spring-Driven Models

Coxreels has made a product enhancement to the spring-driven 1¼” and 1½” SLPL models. Prior to this update, these models of the SLPL came standard with Coxreels’ aluminum inline swivel. Optional on all of these models was the outsourced 90° swivel. For customers needing a stainless steel fluid path, the outsourced 90° stainless steel swivel was the only option.

Coxreels eliminated the aluminum inline swivel on five SLPL models (725, 750, 825, 835, and 850) and incorporated a nickel-plated steel inline swivel (from the 1185-Series). This swivel increases the pressure rating of the inline plumbing from 250psi to 1500psi. The nickel plated steel is also far more rugged and durable than the aluminum swivel that it replaces. The new swivel includes Coxreels multi-lobe seals for much improved leak integrity.

The new inline swivel is also available in stainless steel, which gives customers a choice with their stainless steel fluid path requirements. The stainless steel inline swivel fluid path is considerably more cost-effective than the 90° swivel stainless steel fluid path. The inline swivel also boasts a more efficient, less restrictive flow path than the 90° swivel.

The axle plumbing in both standard carbon steel models and optional stainless steel models was upgraded as well. The 135° elbow on the axle riser has been replaced with the Coxreels swept riser design (also from the 1185-Series). The swept riser design offers a less restrictive flow path for improved flow efficiency.

Attend Live Virtual Flame Detection Demo at the MSA Detection Experience Center

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA, July 20, 2021 – Process, safety and plant engineers responsible for protecting their facilities from flame hazards will want to register for a live demonstration at the MSA Detection Experience Center to see how MSA’s sophisticated flame detectors respond in real-time to a variety of industrial fire types and false alarm sources.

MSA’s Detection Experience Center provides a live, informative flame monitoring technology demonstration experience to those responsible for gas and flame safety.  These demonstrations reflect the most common, dangerous hazards encountered in a wide range of industries: aerospace, chemicals, electric power, food/beverage, oil/gas production, petrochemical refining, pharmaceuticals, and others.

The FL500 UV/IR Flame Detector delivers high speed flame detection with increased false alarm immunity in a compact design. The FL500 UV/IR Flame Detector monitors for radiation emitted by a flame in both the ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) spectral ranges.

FL500-H2 UV/IR Flame Detector

The FL500-H2 UV/IR Flame Detector is a modified version of the FL500 designed specifically to detect hard-to-see hydrogen flames. UV/IR flame detectors provide a fast response time with increased false alarm immunity against radiation sources.

FL4000H Multi-Spectrum IR Flame Detector

The FL4000H is a multi-spectrum infrared (MSIR) flame detector with superior false alarm immunity and a wide field of view. The FL4000H employs a multi-spectral optical IR sensing array with a Neural Network Technology (NNT) system to discriminate between actual flames and the vast majority of false alarm sources. The FL4000H detects typical fires such as alcohol, n-heptane, gasoline, jet fuels and hydrocarbons.

There is no cost for this informative live virtual event and demonstration, which is offered bi-weekly based on availability. The event can be customized for company groups upon advance request. Humble (TX) Fire Rescue Welcomes New Pierce Truck to Its Fleet

According to a report from The Tribune, Humble (TX) Fire Rescue (HFR) has added Ladder 1—a 2021 Pierce Velocity Aerial fire truck—to its fleet of apparatus. The aerial hit the road within hours of commissioning on June 24 by responding to a structure fire.

HFR Chief David Langenberg said that the truck features a 107-foot ladder and a 2,000-gallon-per-minute pump. The Pierce replaces a 20-year-old 100-foot ladder truck. He also said that the truck’s state-of-the-art technologies and advancements will help the city grow in efficiency.

Since the new Pierce was brought into service, Ladder 1 has responded to 15 motor vehicle accidents; five fires; 11 miscellaneous, non-EMS calls for service; and 20 emergency medical services responses as either the first responder (i.e., if a paramedic on the ladder truck can be on scene quicker than the nearest ambulance) or to assist an ambulance crew with staffing.

Langenberg added that the HFR now has an apparatus replacement schedule in place and formalized for future trucks. He also said the town will not wait more than 20 years to replace a truck the next time the HFR is in need of another.

This ladder truck was possible by the city’s Apparatus Committee, who volunteered to travel to Pierce’s factory in Appleton, Wisconsin, to ensure that members of Ladder 1 worked with Pierce sales representatives and engineers to fit the truck with the proper specifications.
