Daphne (AL) Keeps New Fire Station Closed Waiting for New Fire Truck

The Daphne (AL) Fire Department can’t move into a brand new station because the new truck that it is expected to house isn’t ready yet, according to a report published by NBC 15 News.

The $1 million station was completed in January and was expected to be up and running with nine newly hired firefighters, but the $300,000 engine needed to provide services is still being built, the television station reported.

The new engine has been completed, but its delivery has been delayed apparently because the COVID-19 shut down, the television station reported.

The newest date for the station opening is some time in September, according to the report.

Stockton (CA) Fire Department Apparatus Involved in Crash

Video via sacramento.cbslocal.com

An investigation is underway after an early morning crash involving a fire truck in Stockton (CA), reports sacramento.cbslocal.com.

The crash happened at Pershing Avenue, near March Lane, and Stockton fire officials say one of its crews was heading to a fire on Sonoma Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Monday when the truck was involved in a crash with another car.

Following the crash, the apparatus’ tiller went sailing through a nearby building with a firefighter in it, the report says. That firefighter and the driver of the other car were taken to the hospital. Neither party’s injuries were disclosed. None of the other three firefighters in the truck were hurt.

Police are investigating.

Oakland (CA) Fire Department to Receive $825k for New Fireboat

The Oakland (CA) Fire Department’s application for a FEMA Port Security Grant was successful, and the department will be awarded $825,000 to purchase an Emergency Response Vessel, which will reside in the Oakland estuary adjacent to Station 2 in Jack London Square.

The new fireboat will be used in conjunction with the department’s existing water rescue boat, Marine 1, and will be fully equipped. Its predecessor was decommissioned in 2003.

“We’re cognizant of the budgetary limitations that exist in Oakland and how that has impeded this department’s ability to repair and replace outdated infrastructure and apparatus in a timely manner,” Chief Reginald Freeman said in a press release. “I am thrilled that these grant funds will enable us to respond to incidents at the Port of Oakland more effectively, while also making sure we’re equipped to continue protecting life and property along Oakland’s vibrant waterfront.

“External funds like these play a critical role in augmenting our operational capacity, and I applaud and appreciate everyone who had a hand in making this grant application successful. While the application process may be challenging and competitive, the outcome has made our department stronger and the city more resilient.”

More details—including when the department can put into service the new apparatus—will be provided in the future.
