Yakima (WA) Fire Dept. to Get Two New $745,000 Pumpers

The Yakima (WA) Fire Department will be getting two new pumpers after the city council approved the purchase at a recent meeting, according to a report published by YAKTRINEWS.com.

According to the published report, each of the new pumpers will be about $745,000 before taxes and will be ordered through a local dealer, Cascade Fire and Safety, a REV Group representative based in Yakima. Because the dealership is based in the community, sales tax revenue will go back to the city, according to the news report.

Fire officials said the department has eight pumpers, five of which are frontline and three are reserved, according to the news report. The report also says the city is running several years behind on fire apparatus replacement.

Before the July 20 vote was taken the Yakima Firefighters IAFF Local 469 union published a post on Facebook saying they desperately needed the new engines, according to the news report. The IAFF local also published a table outlining the age and mileage on the apparatus to illustrate the need, the news agency reported.
