Holy Cow(litz)! Clark-Cowlitz (WA) Fire Rescue Receives First of Four New Engines

Clark-Cowlitz (WA) Fire Rescue (CCFR) Tuesday put a new engine into service at Woodland’s Station 29—the first of four new engines the department will receive over the next 15 months, reports ClarkCountyToday.com. Three were purchased by the fire district, and one was purchased for CCFR by the Cowlitz Indian Tribe via a FEMA grant.

The new apparatus has a 730-gallon water tank, pumps 1,500 gallons of water per minute, has 20 gallons of foam for flammable liquid fires, three different-sized ladders, and more than 2,500 feet of fire hose.

In addition, the new engine carries Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical equipment to treat patients experiencing a medical emergency. It also carries powerful hydraulic tools for cutting apart vehicles involved in serious crashes.

It took a committee of five officers and firefighters more than a year to write the specifications and design the engine. It was built over 10 months by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisc.

The new engine’s predecessor will be placed in reserve status, and CCFR will sell the District’s most worn-out reserve fire engine.

Emergency Radio Stolen from Pasadena (CA) Fire Department’s Truck 31

A man stole an emergency radio from a Pasadena (CA) Fire Department truck on Wednesday, reports PasadenaNow.com.

The radio was taken at about 11:15 a.m. from Truck 31 while it was at Station 36 for a training exercise, officials say.

Firefighters saw the thief as he was driving away but did not give chase. They then reported it to the police. The radio was quickly disabled, thwarting any nefarious action the suspect may have taken.

Stillwater (OK) Fire Department Getting New Pierce 107-Foot Ladder Next Month

The Stillwater (OK) Fire Department (SFD) next month will be accepting delivery of its new Pierce 107-foot ladder.

SFD had an apparatus committee that commenced in 2019 to determine what requirements they’d like on the new truck. Details were kicked around, and Oklahoma State University’s help was sought for the paint design.

SFD administration then worked alongside with the four-member committee of Battalion Chief Kevin Roach, Captain Brandon Halcomb, Captain Tyler Sparks, and Captain Dustan Portman. In early May, SFD Chief Terry Essary traveled with three of the members to a plant in Wisconsin to complete inspection of the apparatus.

Byram (CT) Fire Station Renovation Almost Complete

The Byram (CT) fire station renovation is almost complete, reports Patch.com. The concrete floor was poured last week, and crews are preparing to move in during July.

The Greenwich Fire Department’s Engine 3 and its full-time firefighters were moved to the temporary station on Horseneck Lane, while the volunteers were operating out of headquarters on Havemeyer Place.

Construction on the nearly 70-year-old building began last summer. The interior was stripped and remodeled to code, and it was made more energy-efficient. The day room and kitchen were expanded, and the upstairs area was improved as well, along with the addition of office space.

In addition, the two middle bays are now a drive-through from Delavan Avenue through the back of the building. In a nod to its 1952 design, the building’s facade is being preserved.

The completion of the building coincides with the Byram Volunteer Fire Department’s 125th anniversary. Officials say after everyone is back there will be an anniversary celebration with an official reopening and re-dedication of the building.
