Grand Junction (CO) Welcomes New Engine to Fire Station 5

According to a report from Western Slope Now, the Grand Junction (CO) Fire Department (GJFD) engaged in a tradition that dates back to the 1800s when it sprayed down its latest arrival with water from the one its replacing.

The GJFD’s latest truck is a “clean cab concept” designed for firefighters’ safety on call. One of its greatest features is how it decreases the members’ risk for cancer.

GJFD Chief Ken Watkins says the engine is set up so firefighters do not place their potentially contaminated gear on it after a fire or coming back from a hazardous material or other type of call.

This is the GJFD’s first public ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Per their tradition, guests can join in welcoming the latest addition by drying off the exterior then pushing it into

Slidell (LA) Demolishes Fire Station to Make Room for New Facility

The Times-Picayune newspaper published a collection of photos of the demolition of the Olde Towne Slidell, LA, central fire station after 69 years of service to the community.

Accord to the newspaper, the station at the intersection of Sgt. Alfred Drive and Bouscaren Street was used by the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 for many years until its destruction on Monday, March 29.

A new $4 million station will be built on the site which was cleared by Qc Services, LLC, for $37,000, according to the newspaper.

In the newspaper’s pictorial collection, former firefighters who worked in the station gathered to watch its destruction and share stories about the building’s history.

Marianna (FL) Fire & Rescue Opens New Fire Station

According to a report from WJHG, a new Marianna (FL) Fire & Rescue (MFR) fire station has opened at 2411 Commercial Park Drive in Marianna that will be home to one fire engine and one advanced life-support ambulance.

Jackson County Fire Rescue Chief Charles Brunner said several neighborhoods in the area lacked fire protection and that businesses and homeowners that are located within five miles of the station can potentially save on their insurance rates, depending on their insurance companies and if they follow ISO regulations.

Brunner also said that he hopes the new station will speed up response times, protect more people, and be a selling point to hire more firefighters in the future.

North Hempfield (PA) Station is First Chartered Member of Township Fire Department

According to a report from TribLive, the North Hempfield fire station has become the first chartered member of the Hempfield Township (PA) Fire Department (HTFD) more than one year after town officials began creating one fire department in the township.

Officials worked to establish the township’s now 11 stations, which had been operating as their own entities, under one department. The township’s volunteer service now operates under a paid fire chief and deputy fire chief. Under the banner of the HTFD, stations had to sign service agreements that establish certain protocols.

During a meeting last week, town officials voted unanimously to authorize an agreement of acquisition with the North Hempfield Volunteer Fire Company and the North Hempfield Volunteer Firefighters Relief Association. As a result, the township agrees to take on financial obligations as well as property and apparatus owned by North Hempfield.

Work on creating the HTFD started in 2019 when township leaders were looking to improve their ISO rating, which is directly correlated with homeowner insurance rates.
