Dogs Banned from Chicago (IL) Fire Stations

The Chicago Fire Department will no longer allow dogs at fire stations after a dog killed a family pet near an Englewood fire station, reports The Chicago Tribune.

A stray taken off the street was living at a fire station when the dog got out and killed a small dog being walked in the area.

Department officials will check with fire stations to ensure dogs have been removed.

New East Bay (CA) Fire Station

A 1940s-era station will be closed as a new $10 million station will replace the aging station, reports East Bay Times.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District broke ground to mark the start of construction. Video of the ground breaking is available via the fire department’s Facebook.

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved the $9.6 million facility and awarded the contract to Richmond’s Overaa & Co. in January while the design was approved in the fall.

The new 10,800 square-foot facility will feature decontamination showers, modern systems for extraction of diesel exhaust particulates, a kitchen, seven firefighter dormitories, three restrooms, offices, training and exercise facilities, sauna, dining room and seven firefighter dormitories.

The station will feature three emergency bays, an emergency power generator, an onsite fuel tank and solar roofing.

Photos: Ribbon Cut on D.C. Fire & EMS Deanwood Engine 27 Firehouse

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today for the new D.C. Fire & EMS Deanwood Engine 27 Firehouse.

As part of the festivities, firefighter/tech Christopher Johnson was honored with a Mayoral Proclamation for having served more than 34 years—all with Engine 27.

Fire photographer Tim Olk recently shared some photos from the christening of Streamwood (IL) Fire Department’s brand-new headquarters at Station 31.

The station, which sits at 1204 S Park Ave., will serve as Fire Headquarters. The Streamwood Fire Department was established Jan. 16, 1958.
