Manhattan Beach (CA) to Build New $9.5M Fire Station

Firefighters in Manhattan Beach, CA, are expecting to be in a new $9.5 million fire station by 2023 after the city council approved the final design last week, according to EasyReaderNews.com.

The web site reported that the new station will replace one built in 1954 that has many deficiencies, including the lack of bathrooms for females, bays that are insufficient for modern apparatus and it was not earthquake proof.

The new station will be nearly three times the size of the current station and address the many deficiencies, including an exhaust removal system, the web site reported.

Construction on the new building is set to begin in October, according to the report.

According to a report from The Springville Journal, the Springville (NY) Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) honored its longtime truck captain, Dennis Cobo, with a ride in the its new Engine 1, which replaces the department's old engine of the same name.

The SVFD wanted to honor Cobo, who was the truck captain on the old Engine 1 for more than 30 years, by giving him a ride in the new truck around the village, with SVFD members praising Cobo for everything he has done for the department during his many years of service.

A 42-year SVFD member, Cobo joined the department on September 1, 1978. In addition to his duties as truck captain, he has served in numerous other positions throughout his career, such as helping build the new Franklin Street station, serving on truck committees, and other influential aspects of the department.

As the department moves forward with the new Engine 1, SVFD Chief Marc Gentner said the new truck will be a big help to the department, praising the Village of Springville for its efforts in securing the new truck.
