Amarillo (TX) Fire Station No. 5 Completed, Hopes to Improve Response Times

According to a report from KFDA, the Amarillo (TX) Fire Department’s (AFD’s) new Fire Station No. 5 has been completed, the last of the three new fire stations in Amarillo being built. It will closely resemble Fire Stations No. 3 and 9, but No. 5 will offer some unique features absent from the others.

The station’s layout should allow AFD firefighters to get to their trucks more quickly as well as have more room and greater technology compared to other stations in the area.

The new station has two traditional poles, so firefighters can get to the ground level faster. This is the second AFD fire station in its history to feature these poles. The other station is in downtown Amarillo.

AFD PIO Captain Cody Snyder said that the station also features plymo vents, which will pull diesel exhaust out of the truck rooms; a separate room for turnout gear locker room to store potentially contaminated personal protective equipment; and new, improved bay doors.

It will also include a lounge area, kitchen, four bedrooms, two co-ed locker rooms, a gym, a tornado shelter, and more.

Twenty-four AFD firefighters will be stationed here, with eight on each shift. The AFD expects to begin responding out of the new station beginning this Saturday, April 3.

Seven Hurt as Detroit (MI) Fire Department Apparatus Crash Into Gas Station Caught on Video

According to a report from FOX2, a Detroit (MI) Fire Department (DFD) apparatus was struck by a Lincoln Navigator, knocking it into a gas station at Dequindre and State Fair on Wednesday night, injuring seven people, including three firefighters. All are expected to recover.

The collision between the fire truck and SUV sent the fire truck careening into a Citgo gas station, hitting the pumps and then striking another vehicle before coming to a rest in front of the station store.

The DFD truck was heading to a call on I-75.

Detroit police say it is unclear who is at fault at this point in the investigation.
