East End (MA) Fire Station Repairs Almost Finished

After an elderly man last August drove into the side of the East End (MA) Fire Station, causing $158,300 worth of damage, repairs are nearly complete, reports eagletribune.com.

The driver was not hurt but the wall had to be completely rebuilt. The man’s insurance paid for about 85% of the repairs, leaving the city with a bill of about $24,000.

Officials say the city not only had to rebuild the wall but also upgrade it so it met with modern building codes.

Thomasville (GA) Using FEMA Grant to Buy Fire Equipment

Thomasville Fire Rescue was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) of $248,000, which will fund 42 new Dragger Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), reports WALB News 10.

Recipients of the grant are required to also contribute financially toward the purchase of the equipment. The fire department’s current SCBA are 18 years old and three standards behind the current industry standards.

They cannot be refurbished due to the age and lack of parts. The packs also lack the necessary capabilities to provide efficient radio communications.
