Car Collides Head-On with Livingston Parish (LA) Fire Apparatus

Police are investigating a crash involving a fire engine and another vehicle in Livingston Parish (LA) yesterday afternoon, reports wbrz.com.

Sources said the truck collided with the vehicle head-on, leaving at least one person hurt.

Fire officials confirmed one of their trucks was involved in the wreck on Pete’s Highway but added little else about the incident. Police officials echoed those sentiments.

George (IA) Fire Department, EMS Update Station

The George (IA) Fire Department and George Emergency Medical Services now have more room to grow following a 30-by-50-foot expansion on the southeast corner of the Fire & Rescue station, reports nwestiowa.com.

The construction, which wrapped in November, added two apparatus bays, equipment space, and a training area; it cost $160,000 and was funded in part by a 2019 $59,000 grant from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation. A donation to the city from the Heeren estate in 2018 covered the rest.

There are 25 people on the fire department and 15 with the EMS. Before the addition, there was barely room to pass between vehicles except in single file, officials say.

The station was built in 1994 when the two departments outgrew their previous location on Main Street at what is now the George Community Center. Before the addition, the building was 60-by-80 feet and had four apparatus bays, a conference room, kitchen, laundry room, and showers.

Woman Who Hit Niagara Falls (NY) Fire Department Charged, Treated for Overdose

Not only is the 30-year-old woman who drove into Niagara Falls (NY) Fire Department apparatus on Tuesday facing a slew of charges, reports lockportjournal.com, but she was also treated for an overdose.

Local resident Amber L. Ruffes was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, first-degree driving while impaired by drugs, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, following too closely, refusal to take a breath test, resisting arrest, and endangering the welfare of a child. She also was cited for failure to provide a car seat for her 5-year-old back-seat passenger.

She was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment and blood testing. While there, officials say, Ruffes exhibited signs of a drug overdose. Hospital staff treated Ruffe with Narcan, to which she had a positive reaction, indicating she was affected by opiates. Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.

Firefighters on Truck 1 told police they were stopped at the light at 10th and Pine when the truck was rear-ended.

Ruffes told police that her brakes failed while she was approaching a stop sign. Officers noticed several signs of impairment while speaking with her. Once informed that she was under arrest, Ruffes resisted being taken into custody, officials say.
