Two Neighboring Indiana Fire Depts. Mull New Apparatus

Two neighboring Indiana fire departments are looking to replace fire apparatus soon, and one community is doing so to replace a tanker that was totaled in a rollover crash in January, according to a report broadcast by radio station WKVI.

North Judson-Wayne Township is considering replacing the damaged tanker with a new one at the cost of about $200,000, but is also considering used and refurbished apparatus at considerable savings, the radio station reported.

Additionally, firefighters in Winamac have started looking for a new pumper with a price of between $200,000 and $400,000 to replace a 1994 model year unit with increasing cost to maintain it, the station reported.

North Lyon County (NV) Gets Two New Fire Engines

Two new fire engines have been placed in service with the North Lyon County, NV, Fire Protection District, according to a report broadcast by KOLO TV 8.

The delivery last week marks the first time in 33 years the department received a new engine, the TV station reported, adding that the engines were purchased with donations, tax dollars and loans.

The engines will be in service in two stations in Fernley, the station reported, and were greatly needed.

Fire Destroys Glenburn (ND) Fire Station, Seven Apparatus

A fire in a Glenburn, ND, fire hall destroyed the building and seven fire vehicles inside on Saturday morning, according to a report broadcast KFYR TV.

The television station reported that the fire appeared to have started in the furnace room, but the cause of your fire is under investigation.

In addition to the damage to the building, a fire engine, a tanker, three grass units, a command vehicle, and a light rescue truck were destroyed, the television station reported.

It is expected the town’s insurance company will cover the loss, but, in the meantime, neighboring fire departments will handle the fire department’s calls until they are able to get back in service by fall, the television station reported.

The station has received offers of help from as far away as Minnesota, the TV station reported.

Woman Dies, Firefighters Injured in Daytona Beach (FL) Fire Truck Crash

A woman in a Pontiac, allegedly traveling at 80 mph, was killed Saturday when she slammed into the back of a Daytona Beach fire truck as it changed lanes, according to a report published by the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The newspaper reported that five firefighters suffered minor injuries when the truck flipped on its side.

The driver of the car, a 52-year-old woman from Ormond Beach died at the Halifax Health Medical Center, according to the newspaper.

No charges are expected, according to the newspaper.
