Vote for Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (MO) Fire Station

Voters will be asked to approve $10 million in bonds to build and equip a Central Jackson County Fire Protection District fire station, reports The Examiner.

The bond issue will not increase taxes. The department’s recent demographic study showed the district’s population would increase about 27 percent over the next eight years. Right now, the fire stations are not situated to cover all parts of the city.

Saanich (Canada) Considering $24M Plan to Replace Fire Station

Saanich’s $26-million replacement and expansion of its fire station is expected to begin next year and finish in 2023, reports Times Colonist.

The fire station is planned to meet the demand as population grows. It will have room for additional emergency vehicles and address a shortage of storage space. Some tax revenue has been set aside since 2014 to finance the fire station.

The goal is not only to build a new fire station but to set up the district’s main fire suppression training facility on an enlarged site.

The design will see the new station built to a post-disaster standard, using mass timber.

Streetsboro City Council (OH) Approves Fire Station Contingency After Project Errors

Streetsboro City Council is increasing the city’s contingency by $20,000 to $95,000 after design errors in a new fire station project, reports Record-Courier.

The project manager told fire officials that $20,000 should be enough to cover any issues.

Some city officials expressed frustration that some of the items the city has had to pay for, including the fact that the the shower area was planned to be built with drywall.

Another official expressed concern that the contingency is not enough. He said that usual contingencies amounted to 10% of the project’s cost.

Officials are also hopeful there will not be more problems.
