The Demorest City Council delayed the purchase of a new fire truck with no planned date to revisit the purchase, reports nowhabersham.com.

The delay will last at least six months. Public safety funding had previously been approved for $580,000 for a fire truck. But the truck that the city needs will cost $650,000. Unfortunately, the price of the truck is set to go up over the course of those six months.

The fire department currently uses a 25-year-old fire engine has been out of service for two weeks.

The Williamsport Bureau of Fire has made a $2 million proposal to replace two fire trucks, reports Williamsport Sun-Gazette.

City Fire Chief Mark Killian presented a plan for a $1.5 million ladder truck and $600,000 for an engine. The City Council’s finance committee reviewed the option of a multi-year lease costing the city $245,000 a year until 2031.

The fire engine and ladder truck are estimated to cost far more than 1 mill of tax generates, which is $860,000.

The vehicles the city is considering replacing include:

• Tower One — a 2011 Pierce Aerial truck purchased in 2010. It remains reliable but requires maintenance.

• Engine One — a 2016 KME engine, which has considerable maintenance issues.

Fire Chief Killian said that the department has struggled to maintain its current fleet.

According to a report from The Southeast Missourian, a new Millersville (MO) Rural Fire Protection District (MRFPD) fire station will begin construction after its groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon.

The ceremony, attended by members of the district’s board of directors, members of the contracted construction company, and MRFPD Chief Ray Warner, signaled the start of the $900,000 station’s construction, which is expected to be completed by August 1.

The new fire station was designed by Dille Pollard Architecture and will be built by Zoellner Construction, will house newer, larger apparatus and equipment; be more adaptable to changing fire service needs and types of emergency calls, help improve response times by accommodating volunteer staff, and replace the current building because of costly repairs.

Madison County Board of Supervisors have agreed to seek funding for a ladder fire truck that will serve a Madison County Megasite, reports Madison County Journal.

The cost of the truck is expected to cost between $1.2 and $1.3 million. The truck would serve a site that is home of an Amazon fulfillment center.

Madison county officials said that they will explore all avenues for funding and plan to ask state leaders for assistance.
