Save the Date for the 2020 NVFC Training Summit

NVFC summit

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is pleased to announce that the next NVFC Training Summit will take place June 26-27, 2020, in Orlando, Florida. Pre-register here to save your spot and get updates as event information becomes available.

Launched in 2014, the Training Summit provides an opportunity for first responders from across the country to participate in valuable classroom training as well as exchange ideas and best practices with their peers. The NVFC’s signature annual conference is open to all volunteer firefighters, EMS providers, department leadership, and other fire department personnel. General and breakout sessions will address critical issues in first responder health and safety, recruitment and retention, and fire prevention.

More details, including a call for presentations, stipend program, travel information, and registration, will be available in the coming weeks. Pre-register for the Training Summit to stay informed of new event details.

Wilmington (NC) Celebrates New Fire Apparatus

Wilmington Fire Department celebrated the arrival of a new engine at a “roll-in” ceremony, reports WWAY 3.

The newly equipped truck is worth $639,000. Engine 3 will be housed in Station 3 located off Cinema Drive. The engine contains a more efficient pump, front suspension, diesel engine, electrical system, generator, LED light and siren package, and front and side air bars.

Museum of East Alabama Celebrates 30 Years

Museum of East Alamaba is celebrating 30 years and now features a hands-on fire station exhibit, reports Opelika-Auburn News.

Designed to resemble what a fire station of the time looked like, the exhibit is equipped with an actual 1959 fire truck and a firemen’s pole brought in from an old fire station. The exhibit also is a favorite of museum board president, Jim Hardin.

Structural Issues Force Temporary Close of Pittsburgh Fire Station

Structural issues are forcing a Pittsburgh fire station to temporarily close, reports WPXI 11.

All Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire personnel housed at Fire Station 8, along with three fire trucks, will be moved to different stations. A truck will be added to one of the locations to make sure the transition goes smoothly.

Fire officials haven't said when the work will be complete.
