Peninsula Fire (MI) Could Add Third Station

The idea for now is to build an unmanned station housing a single fire engine in the Old Mission area, Gilstorff said. One possibility would be to demolish a township-owned building by Hazerot Beach and replace it with a pole barn. Renovating the existing structure, near the Traverse Street and Swaney Road intersection, could cost more than demolition and new construction.

Department firefighters and EMTs live in the Old Mission area and could get to the garage quickly, Gilstorff said. The department eventually could add basic emergency medical response equipment to the vehicle.

Pasadena (CA) Wants Pumper Fire Apparatus

The Pasadena Fire Department is seeking approval from the City Council to purchase a new 2019 Seagrave model DB50CT Capitol Pumper to replace a Pierce brand pumper which has already logged over 161,000 miles of service with the department.

The new truck would be part of the fire department’s fleet of 13 pumpers, eight of which are frontline pumpers and five are reserve.

The pumper would cost $968,621, according to an Agenda Report prepared by the Department of Public Works for Monday’s City Council meeting.

Public Works said the fire department chose to acquire a Seagrave pumper because of its dependability and standard two-year warranty. The pumper is designed with the “clean cab” design concept, which limits the exposure of toxic carcinogens through the implementation of nonporous interior cab design finish and improved ventilation

Waterford (MI) Wants to Exchange Fire Apparatus for Training

The Waterford Regional Fire Department is hoping to exchange a surplus fire truck for training at Oakland Community College.

For about six months, the department has had a 1991 Pierce Quint 100’ Aerial ladder truck listed for sale. Once a Pontiac Fire Department truck, the vehicle was originally listed at $40,000. No calls or offers were made and the price was reduced to $25,000, still without any offers.

A new Sutphen Quint was purchased to replace it last year.

In order to avoid paying to recertify a truck that’s no longer in use, the department contacted the Oakland Community College CREST Center about donating the vehicle. In exchange for the truck, the college is offering $25,000 in training for fire department personnel.

No Injuries in Lynchburg (OH) Fire Apparatus Rollover

Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District Chief Jeff Turner said there were no injuries when the truck apparently drove off the right side of the road then swerved to the opposite side, eventually rolling over and coming to rest in a ditch.

The tanker was responding to a fire on U.S. Route 50 near the Brown County line Sunday when it reportedly drove off the right side of the road and the operator overcorrected, Turner said.

“These are very top-heavy fire trucks,” the chief said, “and that caused it to roll over.”
