The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

County celebrates opening of newest fire station

The new station will serve about 8,000 people in the West Hammond area.

District 6 has received approximately 1,200 calls for service over the last year, according to County Commission Chairwoman Margaret McDaniel.

D.C. Firetruck Shortage Connected To Woman's Death

The truck company that is normally first due was covering for another truck company as part of a rotation of apparatus to cover for the out-of-service company whose rig has been out for repair since November 11.

Illinois American Water Distributes Grant to Des Plaines Fire Department

 

The IAW 2018 Firefighter Grant Program provides financial assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving communities in its service areas. This year, approximately $77,000 will be awarded to 78 Illinois fire departments. Since the program was created in 2010, over 500 grants totaling over $493,000 has been awarded to fire and emergency organizations serving customers in Illinois American Water's service area.

Cherokee County Board of Commissioners (GA) Approves Fire House, Fire Apparatus Purchase

JK Lockwood Construction had the highest-scoring proposal and submitted the lowest of seven bids for the renovation of Station 24, staff said. The station is at 1000 River Park Boulevard, Woodstock. Commissioners also approved a 15 percent contingency, $64,155, in the event of additional, unforeseen repairs.

Separately, commissioners accepted a $338,486 insurance payout from One Beacon for Fire Engine 24, totaled in an accident, and the $438,590 purchase of a new engine from Fireline Inc. The totaled unit was acquired in September 2016 for $398,219, and was deployed about a year and had less than 10,000 miles on the odometer when it was in the accident, staff said.
