Fire Station 7 in Fairlington to Shut Down Temporarily Due to 'Structural and Safety Concerns'

The fire department says the trouble stems from the “apparatus bay floor” of the station, where fire engines are housed inside the building. Whenever firefighters would pull an engine into or out of the station, the county says crews heard noises that convinced them to undertake an engineering investigation — particularly because some of the crew’s living quarters are located directly beneath the area in question.

That closer look at the concrete convinced the fire department to move its crews elsewhere, for now.

PCRMC Auxiliary Donates $220,000 for New Ambulance, Equipment

The new ambulance is equipped with a Stryker cot loading system to help transport patients. The loading system weighs about 175 pounds itself, with no patient on it, and can hold up to 700 pounds.

The ambulance also has a gel ride system to help provide a ride as comfortable as possible for patients.

The idea to raise money for a new ambulance began during a discussion between PCRMC President and CEO Ed Clayton and Auxiliary Director Tina Pridgeon. Auxiliary President Jayne Stites championed the project for approval by the Auxiliary board.

Department Devises Solution to Save Water during Fire Apparatus Pump Testing

Recently the Fort Buchanan Fire Department, Guaynabo Puerto Rico, conducted the annual fire apparatus pump test for its primary and backup engines. During the planning process, our team came up with a great solution to save water usage as well as for cost in renting or purchasing expensive equipment to conduct the test. By simply adding a cunstuction dump truck to the equation (thanks to our installation public works), we were able to bounce, retain, redirect, and reuse the water from the portable tank we were drafting from. This setup allowed the team to reuse most of the water being discharged during the test, saving thousands of gallons of water.

By completing the NFPA annual pump test, we ensure that Camille (Engine 1) and Old Smokey (Engine 2) are ready when needed.
