Murrieta Police And Fire Launch New CAD/RMS System

The departments officially launched their new computer-aided dispatch and records management system and a new fire station alerting system that morning.

The cost for the new CAD/RMS system is $1.8 million, and funds were raised through the collection of developer impact fees and federal-seized asset forfeiture funds.

No taxpayer general fund monies were used in the purchase.

According to a press release issued by Murrieta Police, the system transition is a part of a four-year capital improvement project and replaces a “system (that) was antiquated and did not meet the collective needs of both departments due to its inability to adequately abstract accurate and timely data.”

The new system, made by Tri Tech Software Systems, has crime mapping and analytics which will be utilized to prevent and solve crime more effectively and efficiently.

“The implementation team consisting of the Tri Tech staff, our consultant and personnel from several city departments was a collaborative team effort,” Murrieta Police Department Chief of Police Sean Hadden said. “The entire team worked diligently over the past several years with the goal of improving public safety in the city, and we believe this goal was achieved.”

The departments said the system “increases efficiency and public safety service levels by electronically transferring information captured by the dispatcher from the caller and sends it immediately to the personnel in the field through the mobile computer in the police units and fire engines. Original call information can now be populated directly into the police or traffic collision report forms.”

They said the system is expected to improve medical response times by seconds, possibly minutes, because the new CAD/RMS is integrated with the Phoenix G2 Fire Station Alerting System.

Hamilton (TX) VFD Locked Out of Building

According to their Facebook page, they say the city closed the Fire Department as of 8 a.m. on Monday.

They say they tried to get on the City Council agenda for this Thursday, but were denied.

The disagreement comes from the city initiating a contract explaining who is responsible for the equipment the crew use. While the department is temporarily back open, they're hoping to find a fast solution.

Watertown (NY) Council Approves Federal Grant for Fire Department

In voting against the funding, Mayor Butler contended the city could save $4 million if the city eliminated the “minimum manning” clause that requires 15 firefighters are on duty at all times and not accept the grant. Almost all of the city’s $800,000 in overtime expenses also would be gone, he said.

The minimum manning stance is at the crux of a four-year contract dispute with the Watertown Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 191. As a result, the city will save money in personnel costs because many of those firefighters earn top-tier annual salary wages of $55,635 and they will be replaced by new people earning a base salary of $44,799.
