HME Ahrens-Fox Names Vice President of Operations

GRAND RAPIDS, Wyoming - HME Ahrens-Fox recently announced the addition of Tom Jekel as the Vice President of Operations. Jekel will oversee the day to day operations of all HME Ahrens-Fox firefighting apparatus.

“The growth of HME Ahrens-Fox has necessitated the addition of someone with Tom’s depth and experience,” said President, Jim Monterusso. “To find someone with equal components of manufacturing, education, and that of a first-responder made Tom’s addition an easy choice.”

Jekel, has 20+ years of hands-on manufacturing leadership, where he most recently served as the plant manager at Symbiote in Zeeland, MI. He has his Six Sigma Greenbelt certification, has been an instructor at Grand Rapids Community College for over 20 years, is an EMT, and is Deputy Chief of the Zeeland Township Fire Department. Tom has been married to his wife Barbara for 30 years, and they have 4 kids.

“I am honored to join HME Ahrens-Fox,” said Jekel, “and have the ability to merge the many different aspects of my life’s work to help construct the best fire apparatus available.”

If you would like to take a moment and welcome Tom to HME Ahrens-Fox, he can be reached at tjekel@hmetruck.com.

Pasadena (CA) Fire Department Adopts Renewable Diesel

The department currently operates one truck, four engines and four rescue ambulances on renewable diesel and plans to transition all remaining apparatus by 2019.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a low-carbon fuel produced from 100% renewable and sustainable raw materials. It cuts greenhouse-gas emissions by up to 80% and significantly reduces engine-out emissions, all while enhancing fleet performance, the company says. Unlike biodiesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a drop-in fuel that requires no blending, and it is compatible with all diesel engines.
