Phenix Technology Receives Presidential Award for Exports

Phenix Technology

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross presented Phenix Technology, Inc. with the President’s “E” Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 21. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.

“Phenix Technology has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The “E” Awards Committee was very impressed with Phenix Technology’s strategic plan for market expansion to sustain international growth.  The company’s volunteer work to support other businesses in developing an export program was also particularly notable. Phenix Technology’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs,” said Secretary Ross in his congratulatory letter to the company announcing its selection.

Phenix Technology, Inc. is a manufacturer of products and equipment for emergency service personnel. Located in the sunny state of California, Phenix Technology, Inc. has become a well-known and respected name in the firefighting industry. Best known for rescue and firefighting helmets, the company has provided American Made products to first responders since 1972.

“Exporting is a critical part of our sales strategy,” said Angel Sanchez, Jr., Phenix Technology, Inc.’s Director of Global Operations. “The men and women who put their lives on the line protecting others, here in the United States and abroad, want world class quality products made in the United States. We are honored to receive the “E” Award.”

In total, Secretary Ross honored 32 U.S. companies and organizations from across the country with the President’s “E” Award for their role in strengthening the U.S. economy by sharing American ingenuity outside of our borders.

U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Award through the Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service, located within the Department’s International Trade Administration. The U.S. Commercial Service helps U.S. companies expand in international markets by lending their expertise at every stage of the exporting process.

U.S. exports totaled $2.21 trillion in 2016, accounting for nearly 12 percent of U.S. gross domestic product. Exports supported an estimated 11.5 million jobs nationwide in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the International Trade Administration.

About the “E” Awards

In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. Criteria for the award is based on four years of successive export growth and case studies which demonstrate valuable support to exporters resulting in increased exports for the company’s clients.

Ferrara's Super Pumper™ Exceeds Industry Records

HOLDEN, LA—Ferrara’s high-capacity Super Pumper™ has received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) confirmation for a flow capability of 6,256 gallons per minute (gpm) from draft at a discharge pressure of 125 PSI.  Ferrara has once again exceeded the record for pump performance. The actual performance test has been documented and witnessed by both Underwriters Laboratories and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

With this new increased flow capability, fire departments will no longer be limited to the standard industrial rating of 100 percent capacity at only 100-psi net discharge pressure.  Breaking the 100-psi ceiling has been made possible with the unit’s new HPV6000 pump from US Fire Pump. With four 8-inch connections and one 12-inch intake connection, the ability to be remotely supplied from mega hydrants is now feasible.

Other features of the Ferrara Super Pumper include:

  • Triple threat deck gun system offering an  8,000-gpm main gun and dual rear 2,000-gpm configuration.
  • A rear-mount pump configuration allowing for protection from potential supply and discharge lines, ease of establishing supply lines to the pump, and a quieter operating environment.
  • Wireless remote control of all guns for ease of use to ensure the application of large streams are safely and efficiently deployed on the fireground.
  • The HPV6000’s patent-pending Pressurized Lubrication System that allows for pressurized lubrication to be applied at all shaft bearing points for increased life and durability of bearings.
  • A shorter, more maneuverable 185-inch wheelbase and an overall length of just 33 feet 2.75 inches, making it an ideal choice for older and “tighter” facilities.
  • A foam concentrate tank capacity of 900 gallons.
  • A 300-gpm multipoint direct-injection foam system that reduces increased flow restrictions, including driver and passenger side foam inlet/flush connections.
  • A total of four 6-inch LDH discharges, dual 2.5-inch rear discharges, and dual rear 1.75-inch preconnect discharges.

“Ferrara and US Fire Pump first took on these challenges with the introduction of the Super Pumper™ and HVP5500 Pump just a few short years ago,” said Brad Williamson, Ferrara Industrial Products Manager. “Both companies are on the forefront of new product development and innovation with the Super Pumper™.”

Ferrara’s Super Pumper™ meets the higher flow requirements that industrial hazards firefighters are facing today at petrochemical processing and refining, and is also ideal for municipalities with large fire load facilities such as warehouse districts, shopping malls, shipping docks, tunnels, tank farms, or for mass disaster response requirements.
