Mesa Fire Department Allowing Private Businesses To Sponsor Trucks

As the department deals with around $3.7 million in budget cuts, Smith said they hope the program will generate around $250,000.

"Rather than having to cut into our operational side that can impact our 911 response, we like to be able to create revenue streams that will allow us to work on the education side," he said.

Engine 203 already features messaging from the Mesa Chamber of Commerce that reads, “It’s Everyone’s Business to Stop the Spread of the Flu.” President and CEO Sally Harrison said several of the chamber's 850 members are interested in the fire truck sponsorships.

Central Valley Fire District wants new fire station

The current building, he said, has an oil and water separator inside the building, located near the living quarters of the firefighters, which cause a foul odor inside. Nelson said little things like that all add up to make the living conditions for firefighters not ideal.

The fire district serves the Belgrade, Valley Center, River Rock, Four Corners, Springhill, Dry Creek and Reese Creek communities. Nelson said those areas are growing so quickly that they need to expand to supply emergency services.

“The new fire station is designed to serve the current needs and the district would be able to add another fire company in the building,” he said.

The CVFD board is mulling the feasibility of moving fire station No. 1 to the new location.

Nelson said the fire board has set a budget of $8 million for the completion of the project. The board hasn’t decided how to pay for the building yet.
