South Portland Fire Station Needs Major Renovations After Mold Discovered

Officials with a Maine fire department say a fire station in South Portland needs major renovations because of a problem with mold. Mold was discovered about a year ago at the Cash Corner Fire Station while ceiling tiles were being replaced. A spokesman says "high concentrations of several types of mold" were found in wall and ceiling spaces.

If you've ever been to Old Fort Niagara, perhaps you can picture the narrow 19th-century gateways that lead into the popular Youngstown tourist attraction. Getting fire equipment into the fort has long been a problem for local firefighters. That's why officials recently announced a new fire safety system capable of squeezing into such a tight space.
