The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Hermitage Fire Department is getting a new boom truck

HERMITAGE - "Big Red" has served his community well as a member of the Hermitage Fire Department. But after 28 years, he is ready to move on. This spring, the department will replace the boom truck, fire Chief John Flynn said. "The new truck was built in 2012, so it's only 5 years old.

Kingston Receives $1 Million Fire Apparatus

The $950,000 tiller truck, custom-built by Spartan / Smeal, carries an aerial ladder over 100-feet long, capable of reaching tall buildings in Kingston such as the Ulster County Office Building, and the soon -to-be built HealthAlliance Hospital tower.

It was paid for with a municipal bond.

There are also tiller trucks in fire departments in Suffern, Haverstrawm Hastings-on-Huson and two in Nyack.
