Riverhead Ambulance Corps Seeking Expansion of Headquarters

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps is exploring the possibility of expanding its Osborn Avenue headquarters to create needed storage space. Built in 1989, the RVAC building fits three ambulances and has storage closets along the back walls of the garage.

To make storing and searching for items faster and more efficient, RVAC is seeking Town Board approval for a 20-by-38-foot addition to the back of the station, which currently measures 35 feet by 78 feet. The addition would be solely for storage and extend from the back wall of the ambulance bay.

New Battery-Powered Tools for SH Fire & Ambulance

SWEET HOME - New battery-powered extrication tools valued at nearly $65,000 have been delivered to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, replacing equipment that is 28 years old. Fire Chief Dave Barringer said the new equipment is being paid for through a 31 cents per $1,000 property value bond approved by voters in 2016.

The tools include two cutters, two spreaders, two combination tools — cutter and spreader in one — and a ram.

The tools they are replacing are hydraulic, powered by a generator. The new ones are powered by long-lasting batteries.

“They are lighter, much faster and because they are battery-powered, they can go just about anywhere we need them,” Barringer said.

Flare - An Uber for emergency services in Nairobi, Kenya - Ventures Africa

After five years of working in tech and healthcare in East Africa, Maria Rabinovich and Caitlin Dolkart asked themselves one very important question: how is it that people can easily get a cab or food at the click of a button, but not an ambulance?

This one-day-only exhibit will include the museum’s own 1931 Seagrave Pumper Truck, a 1960s High Top ambulance, late 1800s hose carts, and at least six additional fire trucks dating from the early 1940s through early 1970s. Owners of the vehicles will be available to answer questions and engage in discussion throughout the afternoon.

There are also plans to expand the fleet and add private security and police. Users are rest assured that the companies and ambulances on Flare have adequate insurance, registration, certification, personnel and equipment.
