Clackamas (OR) Firefighting Equipment Arrives from Voters' 29M Bond

October is Fire Prevention Month and this year's theme is, "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out" Clackamas Fire District will host community fire station open houses every Saturday during the month. At 10:19 a.m. Oct. 19, Clackamas Fire is asking for community participation in the "Great Shake Out."

Carpentersville (IL) Upgrades Firefighting Equipment

Fire Chief John-Paul Schilling said at the village board meeting Tuesday that funding had been received. A total of $262,300, which included the village's required 10 percent match, was used to purchase 36 new air packs as well as masks that contain a built-in thermal imaging camera.

 

That feature, said Schilling, "will speed up rescue efforts."

 

"Instead of just one person holding (a device) and directing people, everybody has a view of everything in the room, so the chance of us finding somebody in a rescue situation is greatly enhanced," he said.

Sunbury (PA) Ambulance Stolen with Crew Still Onboard

According to police, Zaharick drove the stolen ambulance through Geisinger's campus, hitting a truck and damaging its front end. That's when things got even worse.

 

Zaharick drove to nearby CVS in Danville and crashed the ambulance into a pole.

 

"I don't know what all kind of damage he's done but the ambulance is pretty banged up," Hare said.

Heavy Fire Rescue Apparatus Key to Weber County (UT) Rescues

The truck is crammed with drills, hammers, breaching tools, cameras, rope, high-pressure air tanks and air bags, portable lighting, saws, and torches to cut metal. An inflatable boat is strapped to the roof.

 

While 41 is the 2-year-old, front-line vehicle, Riverdale also houses a 46-foot-long mammoth that contains equipment for trench collapses and other incidents calling for extra-heavy equipment. The older, larger  truck has been in service for about 15 years, a product of Homeland Security Department funding in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
