Budget Cuts Force Some Oklahoma City Fire Apparatus Stay Out of Service

The Oklahoma City Fire Department doesn't have the money to pay firefighters to run all of its trucks. That means some are out of service.

Over the last two years, Batt. Chief Benny Fulkerson said, the City of Oklahoma City asked the department to make cuts three times.

"With three budget cuts, decisions are not easy and we are making decisions now that do have an impact to some degree," Fulkerson said.

Starting July 1, Engine 51 will be taken out of service. That truck serves the downtown area. It's one of two trucks that can respond to several calls.

Four Hurt In Los Angeles Fire Department Ambulance Crash

A collision involving a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance and another vehicle in Pacoima Wednesday left four people injured, including a patient and two paramedics, authorities said. The crash occurred about 11 a.m. in the 12700 block of West Osborne Street, said Amy Bastman of the LAFD.

Two LAFD paramedics in the ambulance, along with the patient who was being transported, were taken for hospital treatment in fair condition, Bastman said. The male motorist who was the lone occupant of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital in serious condition, she said.

New Columbus (OH) Fire Station Named for Fallen Firefighter

The City of Columbus dedicated its newest fire station Wednesday, which was named in honor of a firefighter killed battling a downtown fire thirty years ago.

John Nance's name and a plaque with his picture have been installed outside Fire Station No. 2 located at Fourth and Fulton Streets.

Nance fell through floor of the Mithoff Building on High Street Street on July 25th, 1987.

McAdoo VFD (TX) Increases Capacity with New Fire Apparatus

McAdoo Volunteer Fire Department purchased a 2017, F550 small brush truck with funding received from the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The $100,000 cost share grant made it possible for the department to replace two older, less reliable trucks with an up-to-date wildland vehicle.

"The majority of our 551-square-mile protection area is ranch or farm land," said Assistant Fire Chief Dusty Harris. "Ninety-percent of the fires that we respond to are in very rough terrain. This factory-built truck will be more dependable with greater firefighting capability."

The truck is equipped with a 500-gallon water tank, 10-gallon foam tank, remote controlled front bumper monitor, wench and behind the cab cross walk.

The combination of the water with the foam helps to increase the efficiency of the water, almost doubling its effectiveness.
