Fire Truck Rollover Leaves Local Company Without Its Top Tool

Four firefighters riding in a truck that rolled over Sunday afternoon escape major injury. Our Matt Hunter has more on the impact the accident will have on the department's ability to answer calls while the truck is out of commission.

The department purchased the truck just last August for $700,000; the accident temporarily leaves the department without its primary tool.

"It carries all of our hydraulic rescue equipment for motor vehicle accidents, some of our hazardous materials equipment and all of our structural firefighting equipment," Mellon said.

Until the truck is repaired, the company will answer calls with its two backup engines and rely on assistance from smaller mutual aid companies nearby.

Nampa (ID) Fire Department Gets New Engine

NAMPA - The Nampa Fire Department just acquired a new fire truck that includes features to help save time and lives. The engine became officially operational May 9, after Capt. Brad Terry and other firefighters worked on it for almost two months.
The new firetruck uses a green star generator, which saves on fuel and emissions. Terry said the vehicle uses just 25 percent of the fuel used by other engines because of the generator. This also makes it better for the environment.

Features also include wireless headsets to aid communication and cameras, which should help the driver with visibility when turning or backing up the 35-foot truck.
