The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

New Uses for Old Fire Trucks

Aging fire trucks, like old soldiers, never die. Resourceful fire departments just find new uses for the old equipment.The vehicles usually become part of a department's reserve fleet or end up benefiting cash-strapped volunteer fire departments. The Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service will receive two new pumpers and a new ladder truck sometime in March.
