Pella (IA) Fire Department Shows Support to Fallen Firefighter

An Iowa fire department's recent act of "brotherhood" for a fallen firefighter of another department was showcased in a video that has gone viral. James Lee Franciskovic, 52, of Burlington was killed in a single-vehicle, weather-related crash Friday evening at mile marker 46 of Iowa Highway 163 in Mahaska County, just east of Pella.
On Sunday morning, the Pella fire and police departments honored Franciskovic as the West Burlington department transported his body back to Burlington, setting up trucks on an overpass and standing in salute of their fallen brother just miles away from where Franciskovic was killed.

New Augusta (ME) Fire Station Nearing Completion

The city’s first new fire station in more than 50 years should be finished by mid-March after poor weather conditions earlier this month delayed the completion of the Leighton Road facility by a few weeks.
It’s been 51 years since the city’s newest fire station was built on Hospital Street, and Audette said this station is overdue and a long time coming because of the growth in the area and increase in fire department calls to north Augusta.

A study by the Matrix Consulting Group in 2008 recommended the department build a new station in the area of Civic Center Drive near Interstate 95. The area is home to the Marketplace at Augusta, a hospital and an under-construction National Guard headquarters, along with several businesses, organizations and public agencies.
