The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS (IAFC) and PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC., an Oshkosh Corporation company, recently announced the 2016 winners of the annual “IAFC Fire Chief of the Year” awards. Volunteer Fire Chief Willard H. “Bill” Halmich, of the Washington (MI) Volunteer Fire Company, and career Fire Chief Harry Beck, of the Mesa (AZ) Fire and Medical Department (MFMD), are this year’s recipients. Winners (selected by a committee appointed by the IAFC) are honored for their leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, and contributions to the fire service as a whole. The awards are sponsored by Pierce. “Every year, I look forward to learning who the IAFC committee has chosen for these incredible honors,” says Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president of the Fire & Emergency segment and Pierce Manufacturing. “Both Chief Harry Beck and Chief Bill Halmich remind us all of the extraordinary impact that truly outstanding leaders have on the communities they serve, as well as on the advancement of the fire service. All of us at Pierce congratulate Chiefs Beck and Halmich!”

WATEROUS recently appointed Gregg Geske to the position of director, North American sales. In this new role, Geske will lead the North American Sales team and play a key role in the business relationships with fire apparatus OEMs. Geske will report to Dominick Monico, global executive director, sales, marketing, and business development.

FIRE-DEX has named Todd Herring director of marketing. Herring will have overall responsibility for product management, marketing, rationalization, promotion, and strategy for all Fire-Dex product lines. The company also recently introduced Larry Bucher as its T-50 regional sales manager, covering California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii.

The AKRON BRASS COMPANY, a unit of IDEX Corporation, recently sponsored and presented the Phillip L. Turner Fire Protection Scholarship, in conjunction with the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA), to University of Maryland student Julie Bryant. Bryant plans to graduate this December with a bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering, which she will continue to pursue at the masters level. In addition to her studies, Bryant is also a member of the Prince George’s County (MD) Fire Department, Station 11, Branchville Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad. David Durstine, Akron Brass’s vice president of marketing and FAMA president, states, “Julie’s persona epitomized the values, efforts, and behaviors that this award was designed to recognize. On behalf of Akron Brass, we wish Julie success and happiness with her future plans.”

GLOBE, DUPONT PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES (DUPONT), and the NATIONAL VOLUNTEER FIRE COUNCIL (NVFC) have announced the second round of winners in the 2016 Globe Gear Giveaway. The latest recipients of the 2016 Globe Gear Giveaway are the Glacier County (MT) Rural Fire Department and the Walker Lake (NV) Volunteer Fire Department. To be eligible to apply for the four sets of new Globe turnout gear, departments had to be all-volunteer or mostly volunteer, serve a population of 25,000 or less, be legally organized in the United States or Canada, demonstrate a need for the gear, and be a member of the NVFC.
