Action Training Systems (ATS), producer of award-winning firefighter, EMS, and industrial fire brigade training programs, is releasing three new titles in its Incident Command & Management (ICM) series. These titles include an overview of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the development and expansion of the Incident Command System (ICS) at different types of incidents and an overview of the roles and responsibilities of Command Staff and General Staff at the scene. These three new titles expand upon the existing two titles in the series: Incident Safety Officer—Roles and Responsibilities and Incident Safety Officer—Incident Scene Safety.
For these titles, ATS used a variety of video resources including producing scenes with neighboring departments such as Gig Harbor Fire, Central Pierce Fire Department, and South Kitsap Fire Rescue. In addition, the ATS production team filmed large-scale training exercises and events planned by the Port of Seattle Fire Department, Snohomish County Fire Department Paine Field, and the East Metro Training Group.
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) title introduces key concepts pertaining to NIMS and reviews this standardized yet flexible system for coordinating large-scale operations between multiple agencies and jurisdictions. NIMS compliance is a condition for federal preparedness assistance, such as grants and contracts. This title provides a great introduction or can serve as an excellent review for the mandatory FEMA IS-700.A course.
The Fire Service: Initial Command title presents the roles and functions of the Incident Command System (ICS) and discusses how the system can be expanded depending on the size, complexity and demands of an incident. The video focuses on fire service response for incident complexity types 4 & 5.
The Fire Service: Expanding Command title focuses on how and when to expand the Incident Command System when an incident is large at onset or is escalating in size. Described is fire service response for incident complexity types 1, 2 and 3. Reviewed are key concepts in expanding ICS, including the roles and responsibilities of the Command Staff and General Staff, as well as Area and Unified Area Command.
This series teaches to NFPA Standards, including NFPA 1521: Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1561: Emergency Services Incident Management System and Command Safety, and NFPA 1026: Incident Management Personnel Professional Qualifications.
ATS has two more titles for the ICM series currently in production: ICS: EMS Operations and Fire/EMS: Active Shooter Response. These are expected to release June 2016.
