Warwick (PA) Approves Ambulance Station Construction

Warwick supervisors voted Monday to move ahead with construction of an ambulance station across from the Wawa at York Road and Meyer Way.

The 1,460-square-foot ambulance station is estimated to cost $500,000. It will include one 35-foot bay with a 12-foot door, two bunk rooms and living and eating areas. It will replace the temporary station on Dark Hollow Road, currently staffed by a Warminster ambulance.

Electronics Stolen from Connecticut Fire Station

Connecticut State Police are investigating a break-in at a volunteer fire station in Killingworth.

State police tell News 8 that Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company's Station 2 was broken into through a back door sometime between Sunday night and Monday night.

The person or persons responsible for the incident stole more than $15,000 worth of electronic equipment.

"The equipment that was stolen was unique to the fire service," said Fire Chief Dick Bauer. "It's not something that you would normally expect would be stolen...it really has no practical use outside of the fire service. That's concerning to us - why that would be gone and what they're going to do with it."

The thieves left behind other valuable equipment, including GPS units and chain saws. The stolen equipment is covered by the fire department's insurance. Killingworth firefighters are now borrowing gear from other departments until they can replace theirs. The theft never stopped their service, but if they hadn't realized during a routine equipment check that some of their gear was missing, things could have been very different.

Firefighters say there are no suspects yet and they're hoping this won't happen to other departments. They are now increasing security at the station. Even though the thieves left a lot of equipment behind, the theft has been tough for the department.

If you have any information you are asked to call Connecticut State Police Troop F at (860) 399-2100.

Historic Atlantic Fire Station to Reopen

One of Atlanta's oldest fire stations officially reopened Wednesday morning and Mayor Kasim Reed will be there to help mark the event.

Fire Station #7 has undergone major renovations in the last few months. The station is the oldest operating fire station in the city of Atlanta. It is located on Whitehall Street, just southwest of the downtown area.

It is one the only remaining fire stations that features a fireman's pole inside. Many fire stations phased out poles due to safety concerns.

The station closed back in 2008 due to budget cuts and fell into disrepair over the next few years.

In 2010, volunteers began cleaning up the station and that prompted Mayor Reed to get involved. He announced an initiative to refurbish the facility and now the renovations are complete.
