The Eufaula Volunteer Fire Department is getting a new station thanks to a grant and American Rescue Plan money, News9.com reported.
This new station will have more room to park the trucks, along with larger office and training areas, the report said.
The Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) fund has provided the city with a grant of $100,000 to begin the construction of a new fire station. The city will use those funds to do site pad work, rough plumbing, and concrete building pad; any leftover funds will be directed towards construction costs. Additionally, the city will use 2021 ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) Grant (248K), and the 2022 ARPA Grant (248K) to construct the building and office/training space. The VFD is putting together design plans, after which project bidding will begin.
The site location will be located at 1712 JM Bailey Highway. The building will be approximately 120 to 140 feet wide and 80 feet deep, with 4 to 6 truck bays front and back and 2,400 square feet of training and office space.
The city will manage the project cost to be $600,000, which is the amount of grant funds available.
A fire official said the current building is worn out and in need of serious upgrades, according to the report. If there are no setbacks, the city hopes to have the new fire station built next spring.
