Safe Fleet Announces New Hires

Safe Fleet:” Fire, EMS, and Industrial (FRC, FoamPro, Elkhart Brass, ROM) recently announced the addition of two new staff members.

Chad Anderson has been named the Western Regional Sales Manager. In his new role, Chris will continue to build and strengthen relationships with Fire & EMS customers in the Western region. His territory will include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. 

Chad has more than 30 years’ experience in the public safety market in the areas of apparatus, equipment, and lighting sales. He also served as a firefighter for 10 years, which uniquely positions him with a firsthand knowledge and understanding of public safety needs. Previously, as the Western Regional Manager for Snap-Tite Hose, he provided the same high-quality service and multi-day product training. Chad brings a 23-year membership on the Arizona Fire Training Committee.

Additionally, Chris Thwaits has joined on as the Southeast Regional Sales Manager. In his new role, Chris will continue to build and strengthen relationships with Fire & EMS customers in the Southeast region. His territory will include Florida and Georgia. 

Chris brings many years of industry experience to Safe Fleet. That experience includes 30 years of fire service in upstate New York, which encompasses experience as a Chief and Instructor. Additionally, Chris has been selling fire equipment and trucks for the past 15 years. Chris currently resides in Citrus Springs, Florida.

Johnston (SC) Upgrades Fire Pumper with $454K Grant

The Johnston (SC) Fire Department purchased a new pumper with a $454,545 Community Development Block Grant, according to a report published by Lakelands Connector.

The apparatus was ordered in 2019 to replace a 1973 model and was delivered last Friday (Aug. 5), according to the report. One of the most appreciated features is the automatic transmission, according to the report, as the previous apparatus has a manual transmission and many of the younger firefighters are not familiar with it’s operation.

Other features include an enclosed ladder compartment LED lights and lots of diamond plate, and a larger pump and tank, according to the report, which added that the town is hoping for improved insurance ratings because of the purchase.

Edwardsville (IL) Moves Forward With $5.1 Million New Fire Station

A $5.1 million appropriation for a new fire station for the Edwardsville, IL, Fire Department was approved according to a report published by The Edwardsville Intelligencer.

According to the report the money will be used to build a new East Fire Station on a two-acre parcel on the north side of Governor’s Parkway just east of District Drive. When complete, it will have three bay and cover about 8,400 square feet.

The opening of the new station will mean the closing of the Montclaire station that was opened in 1969 and can accommodate only two responders, according to the report.

City and fire officials are looking to have the new fire station Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified and to be a healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green building with solar panels, according to the report.

Des Moines (IA) Approves $10.5 Million New Fire Station

A $10.5 million fire station was approved for the Des Moines (IA) Fire Department by the city council at a meeting on Monday night, according to a report published by the Des Moines Register.

The new station will replace Station 4, the second oldest in the city having been built in 1959, according to the report, that added the new station will be moved to a new site at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Parkway and 19th Street.

The new site will require the removal of two homes and could involve eminent domain, according to the newspaper.

When completed in 2025, the new station will prove response times in the district, according to the report.
