Victorville (CA) Fire Department Medic Truck Hit

One person was airlifted to the hospital while a firefighter and two others were taken as a precaution Friday afternoon after an SUV slammed into a Victorville Fire Department medic squad truck, reports vvng.com.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of La Mesa and Amethyst roads, the report says. Fire officials say three people were in the 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, with one needing minor extrication.

Mercy Air 22 airlifted one person to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, while a firefighter and the other two SUV occupants were transported to Desert Valley Hospital as a precaution, according to the report.

The accident is under investigation.

San Bernardino County (CA) Fire Engine Struck on Freeway

At 2:34 a.m. Friday, San Bernardino County Fire’s Medic Engine 76 (ME76) was struck while on-scene of a traffic collision, a Facebook post reads. Firefighters from the Bloomington fire station had responded to a reported traffic collision on the westbound 10 freeway near Sierra Ave in Fontana and had spotted to safely block the incident scene.

While on-scene of the traffic accident, a big rig struck the apparatus from behind. Thankfully all SBCoFD personnel were outside of the apparatus when it was struck and were not injured by the secondary collision. Immediately after the secondary collision, firefighter-paramedics assessed for injuries and provided immediate care to two passengers in the large vehicle. Thankfully both parties inside the truck had minor injuries and declined transport. The apparatus was successful in shielding the original scene, and no first responders or members of the public were injured by the secondary collision. Unfortunately, ME76 sustained significant damage. Crews from Station 76 have moved into a reserve apparatus, so they can continue to provide service to Bloomington and the surrounding area. California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of both collisions.

North Park (IL) Fire Protection District Lobbies for New, Modern $5M Station

The North Park Fire Protection District wants one modern station to replace two of its three fire stations. To do so, the district will ask voters to approve a June 28 referendum which would let the district sell bonds and construct a $5 million facility.

The stations were built way back—two in the early ‘50s and one in 1964—and lack modern necessities. The plan is to combine the Wood Avenue and Harlem Road stations, as well as the administrative building, into one facility. The potential new digs would be located on two parcels of district-owned land on Harlem Road.

The North Alpine Road station would remain in service under the plan.

Wilmington (MA) Fire Department Tower 1 Hit at Scene of Accident

The Wilmington Fire Department’s Tower 1 was hit while blocking traffic for a separate accident Sunday at 11:15 p.m.

This is yet another reminder to slow down and proceed with caution around emergency vehicles with their lights on. Tower 1 was hit tonight on 93 while blocking traffic during a motor vehicle crash. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody. #slowdownmoveover pic.twitter.com/k6Dum4BwZz

It’s the second accident in the last month involving a Wilmington apparatus—neither of which was the department’s fault—though no injuries were sustained this time and non-life-threatening injuries were had in the prior accident.
