Watch: Fire Apparatus Move-In Day at FDIC 2022

Every year during FDIC, the Lucas Oil Stadium is filled with the newest offerings from apparatus manufacturers. 2022 is no exception.

The day before the show starts always features the parade of apparatus making its way into the stadium. Here are some photos and video for this year’s parade of fire apparatus.

Borger (TX) Fire Department Apparatus Overturns En Route to Call

Friday morning, an engine carrying three firefighters from the Borger Fire Department rolled over en route to a call.

Potter County Fire Rescue responded to the accident and extracted the firefighters. Two firefighters were treated on scene for minor injuries and are in good condition; the third firefighter was transported to the hospital via helicopter and is in stable condition.

“Our thoughts are with all personnel involved as well as the family, friends, and coworkers of the injured firefighters,” a Facebook post says.

Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum Now Open

The Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum—also known as the Black Springs Volunteer Fire Department Museum—held its grand opening Saturday, reports thisisreno.com.

The museum showcases restored historic fire engines and “the story of a small unsung fire department that did big things for the North Valleys Community,” the report says.

Wheels Fall Off Amherst (MA) Ambulance

Two firefighter/paramedic from Amherst got jolted Tuesday returning from the hospital when the rear wheels sheared off their ambulance.

No patient was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and the crew was not injured. But firefighters suggest the failure is a sign of city’s need to invest more in its equiment.

“For the past eight years we have been requesting to shift the replacement cycle of our ambulances from 10 years to 7-8 years, allowing us to replace them before catastrophic failure occurs. Our ambulances are running more calls every year, in all weather, on New England roads and these are hard miles on the vehicles,” the union said in a statement about the incident.

Experience has taught the firefighters that a catastrophic failure is likely before an ambulance reaches 10 years of age, the union said. The city has not so far agreed to speed up purchasing replacement vehicles.
