Maintenance Issues Close Mobile (AL) Fire-Rescue Department’s Douglas A. Melton Station

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Douglas A. Melton Station will be closed for a bit while the city removes asbestos, mold, and makes other repairs.

After tiles in the station, located at 57 S. Lafayette St., tested positive for asbestos, crews and their gear were immediately removed and will be strategically relocated.

“MFRD’s responsibilities are to its personnel and to the citizens and visitors of Mobile,” a Facebook post reads. “We do not anticipate any impact on the service provided to the citizens who depend on Station 8 and its members.
