Total Motors Donates Chevy Silverado, $20k to LeMars (IA) Fire-Rescue

Ask and ye shall receive.

Total Motors answered a plea from LeMars Fire Rescue by donating a Chevy Silverado and $20,000 to outfit it.

The department asked for help acquiring a new brush/grass truck on Facebook…

…and the northwest IA car dealer delivered:

“Today, we showed our support to the LeMars Fire Rescue by presenting them with a $20,000 donation towards their new brush/grass truck,” Total Motors writes on Facebook. “After the dangerous fires that affected our community a couple of weeks ago, the Le Mars Fire-Rescue started a campaign to fund $50,000 for an additional unit to serve our communities that proved necessary.

“We proudly sourced them a reliable red Chevy Silverado 3500 that they plan to up-fit to serve our community. As we’ve seen too many times this spring, and especially recently, our firefighters and first responders must have the tools that allow them to protect our communities. This new addition will give them additional resources – not only in field fires but also in covering the areas that large fire trucks wouldn’t be able to approach or fit.

“Our emergency services and volunteers in Le Mars cover a large area of our county every day to keep our communities safe. Total Motors is proud to support our local Fire-Rescue as much as we can.

“The department still needs support to be able to outfit their new vehicle with a tank, pump, hose, and other accessories before it can be utilized. If you’d like to donate towards this cause, you can send a check or cash to:

Hillsborough (FL) Acquires $385k of Land for Fire Station Expansion

Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 5, 2022) – The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted on Wednesday to approve the purchase of a parcel of land for the construction to replace the Armdale Fire Station, located in the Egypt Lake area of the County.

Armdale Fire Station 10 is being replaced with funds from the American Rescue Plan as approved by the BOCC earlier this year. The station needs to be replaced as it is more than 50 years old and has reached the end of its operational life.

Earlier: Hillsborough County (FL) Allocates $18M in American Rescue Plan Funds to Replace Fire Stations

The property being purchased is adjacent to the existing fire station property. It is needed in order to expand the station and build a driveway that will allow apparatus to drive through the apparatus bay instead of the existing back-in style bays.

The purchase is for 0.69 acres, which creates a new fire station property of 2.87 acres at 8430 N. Grady Ave., Tampa, FL 33614.

The new, modern Armdale Fire Station No. 10 will be a single-story, three-bay station. Modern station designs provide health protections for first responders, while improving response times to calls for fire rescue services. Design improvements include decontamination suites that contain specialized equipment and showers and allow first responders to clean themselves and their equipment of cancer-causing particulate matter before entering the living areas of the station.

Rosenbauer Battery Extinguishing System Technology (BEST) Now Available for Sale in North America

“The rise of electric vehicles (EV) in use has quickly brought new risks and challenges for fire departments to solve for. Rosenbauer is committed to the fire service and has worked extensively to develop the BEST tool to support communities in a more safe, easy, and sustainable way. The BEST tool uses thousands of gallons of less water vs. other EV fire suppression methods.” John Slawson, Chairman & CEO of Rosenbauer America

Facing an electric vehicle fire in your community is not a matter of if, but when. Rosenbauer has the safest, most efficient way to respond to this call when it comes. The Rosenbauer Battery Extinguishing System Technology (BEST) is the most advanced system available on the market with six years of research and development, and real-world application testing with automotive partners and fire departments.

Key BEST Product Information and Data:

  • Fast – Simple operation and setup can be achieved in less than 2 minutes; deployment of the piercing nozzle happens in 8 milliseconds gaining internal access to effectively cool all battery pack designs.
  • Efficient – Bringing water exactly where it is needed to effectively cool the battery pack, modules, and cells from within. The ability to halt a thermal runaway battery pack fire in as little as 10 minutes, flowing at a mere 8 gal/min at 100 PSI, far less than using the current EV manufacturer safety data sheets advising a minimum of 8,000 gallons of water to achieve the same results.
  • Safe – The field-proven design keeps the operator 26’ from the involved EV while operating the BEST, limiting exposure to heat and highly toxic fumes released from a lithium-ion battery fire.
