Durant (IA) Fire Truck Involved in ‘Serious Accident’

Walcott man Kent Reimers, 31, was arrested Monday after officials say he hit a Durant fire truck and injured firefighters, reports kwqc.com.

Reimers was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, according to Muscatine County Sherriff’s officials.

Police responded just prior to 8 p.m. to reports of a crash in the 1200 block of Vail Avenue, the report says. Officers arrived and saw that the crash involved a Durant fire apparatus en route to a call. The second vehicle—described as a Terra Gator-type agricultural field sprayer—fled the scene.

The field sprayer was later found at Liqui-Grow in Walcott, and the driver was ID’d as Reimers. He admitted to crashing the vehicle and consuming whiskey prior to it.

Deputies say several crew members of the Durant Fire Department were transported and treated for injuries, one of whom has “a long road ahead of him.”

An investigation is ongoing.
