Happy 150th to Wheeling (WV) Fire Department’s Station 4

The Wheeling Fire Department Sunday held an open house at its Station 4 to celebrate the facility’s 150th year of service.

“For 150 years, a firehouse serving that section of the city has maintained a presence on its current lot,” the department writes on Facebook. “From Noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, March 13, WFD will allow citizens to tour the facility and learn about the history of the station with department personnel. The department’s mascot, ‘Fire Pup,’ also will be on hand for kids to meet and take photos with the trucks.

“Station 4, located at 3618 Jacob Street, opened on March 13, 1872. According to historical documents, there was little fanfare when the station opened. The original station was constructed shortly after the town of South Wheeling was incorporated into the City of Wheeling in 1871.

“Nicknamed the ‘8th Ward Hose House,’ Station 4 is the only station that has retained its original designation and truck number in the city. The original station was razed in 1953, forcing firefighters to work temporarily out of a nearby Cooey-Bentz warehouse until the current building, which currently houses Engine 4 and Squad 3 was constructed in 1954.

“The primary response district for Station 4 is the South Wheeling area from 27th Street to the city limit at 48th Street.”

Amesbury (MA) Engine and Ambulance Collide in Icy Conditions

Two Amesbury Fire Department apparatus, an engine and an ambulance, were damaged when they slid while parked at a call during Saturday evening’s slippery and snowy conditions. The fire engine sustained further damage when a small electrical fire broke out later in the evening, the department announced in a news release.

On Saturday, March 12 at 8 p.m., Amesbury Fire Rescue responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Whitehall Road. Amesbury Engine 1 and Ambulance 2 responded and stopped at the crest of a hill. Both vehicles had their parking brakes set, but given slippery conditions at the time, both vehicles soon began sliding backwards for several feet. Engine 1 stopped at the edge of a curb, but Ambulance 2, which was parked in front of the engine, slid into the front of the engine.

Neither vehicle sustained serious damage, but both had to wait for an Amesbury Public Works sander to arrive and provide grit to help the apparatus gain the necessary traction to get underway again.

No one was injured at either the initial motor vehicle crash — which also involved a vehicle skidding off the road in the slippery conditions — or the incident involving the apparatus.

However, upon returning to the firehouse, Engine 1 experienced a small electrical fire and had to be pulled out onto the apron of the fire house, where it was quickly extinguished. Fire officials determined the fire was caused and confined to external battery jumper terminals.

Engine 1 will be out of service until necessary repairs and inspections can be made. Ambulance 2 was inspected and deemed fit to resume duty.

A spare engine from the City of Newburyport arrived on loan this weekend and will be in service until Engine 1 is repaired. Amesbury Fire Rescue, Chief Fire Chief Kenneth E. Berkenbush, Mayor Kassandra Gove and the City of Amesbury thank Newburyport Fire, Chief Christopher LeClaire and Mayor Sean Reardon for their support.

Honeywell Launches New Global Channel Partner Program

  • Streamlines channel partner program experience across product businesses
  • Features new digital platform to help drive partner growth and improve customer standard of care

ATLANTA – March 14, 2022 – Honeywell Building Technologies (HBT) (Nasdaq: HON) today announced the launch of its new catalyst Partner Program (CPP), a customer-centric global framework to better support the growth and success of its system integrator, distributor and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners. The new global program streamlines previous channel partner program experiences across the Honeywell Fire, Security and Building Management Systems (BMS) businesses to help improve end customer standard of care and create greater efficiencies through a new digital platform.

Designed with the intent to improve customer experience touchpoints and better meet end customers’ needs, CPP leverages best practices from the previous programs and helps drive business growth for channel partners, while aligning shared strategic goals. The new program includes a new digital Partner Relationship Management (PRM) platform that offers partners a digital resource to manage their portfolio as well as track their progress, incentives and benefits.

“The catalyst Partner Program is the next step in our customer-centric journey to better support our global channel partners’ needs in a transparent, consistent and accessible way,” said Jurgen van Goethem, president of Commercial Fire and Security for Honeywell Building Technologies. “The new program and PRM dashboard offer our partners a more integrated approach to grow their businesses, gain product knowledge, and provide better customer service.”

The Program features a tiered approach to support participants’ achievements and recognizes the performance of channel partners based on capability, strategic alignment and buying behaviors. The tiered levels of rewards and recognitions increase based on sales volumes, business results, customer service, product training and engagement. Program benefits such as account service levels, preferred pricing and marketing support correlates with the partner’s program tier.

The launch of CPP furthers HBT’s efforts to make it easier for channel partners and customers to work with the organization. It is supported by MyBuildings. Honeywell.com, an e-commerce platform that provides customers with direct product purchasing access and the My Honeywell Buildings University (MyHBU) education portal which provides channel partners and customers with more than 350 instructor-led courses and on-demand content about Honeywell Fire, Security, and BMS products. The platforms provide customized, easy-to-use experiences and help customers remain current with product and critical industry certifications they need to respond to business.

Two New Fire Departments Join OpsCentral Operational Intelligence Platform

Wellington, New Zealand (March 11, 2022):  OpsCentral is proud to welcome two new customers to its operational intelligence and incident command platform.

The City of St. Albert Fire Department of Alberta, Canada is now utilizing OpsCentral to help the department manage its incident command operations across all three of its fire stations servicing the city.  The decision to partner with OpsCentral was based on the flexibility of the software to meet the specific current needs of the city’s response team, but also the company’s ability to adapt the software to their future needs and the availability to new and evolving data.

“OpsCentral has obviously researched situational awareness for emergency services and used it to develop their product,” said Vern Elliott, Deputy Fire Chief, “The true value proposition of OpsCentral is that they are also continually listening to us, the responders, and our requirements to fine tune the product over time. In my experience, this is refreshingly unique to have analysis of what we need and the flexibility to deliver a tool based on our capabilities.”

Riley County Fire Department of Riley County, Kansas has also adopted OpsCentral to help the department simplify their operations, specifically incident command, across their 15 fire stations that are served by 130 volunteer firefighters.

Key to their decision to adopt the OpsCentral platform was the ability to integrate data from numerous water sensors that are positioned upstream of the Tuttle Creek Dam.  When flooding occurs, several roads used by public safety are often under water, which extends response time to emergencies.  OpsCentral connected to these U.S. Geological Survey water sensors and created an alert within the platform that notifies the fire department which roads are flodded. With this alert, they will now be able to better plan a route to the incident before they even leave the station saving response time.

“We’re always looking for ways to innovate and use new technologies to help us deliver the best fire and emergency response possible to Riley County,” said Deputy Chief John Martens. “We’re hoping OpsCentral will allow us to bring together time-sensitive information to support quick, informed decision making.”

OpsCentral welcomes both the City of St. Albert Fire Department and Riley County to the OpsCentral platform.
