Fairfield (IA) Voters Approve New $5M Fire Station

Fairfield residents Tuesday approved $5 million in funding for a new fire station, reports ktvo.com. The measure passed with unofficial results showing 75% approval.

“The new station will be built to withstand 125 mph [wind],” the city writes on Facebook. “Additionally, the building will provide a storm shelter for the occupants, built to withstand 250 mph. The proposed fire station will also include an emergency operations command center (EOC). The EOC is the centralized location of emergency response and recovery support operations during incidents. While tactical on-scene operations are conducted, the EOC supports and helps coordinate field operations and any other adjacent incident operations. The EOC will also be located within the storm shelter area, providing the 250-mph protection; which is something currently not available within Jefferson County.”

The new station, which will replace the current 50-year-old facility, is expected to be built on the corner of W. Briggs Avenue.

It will include a training tower, storm emergency command center, airlocks, sleeping quarters, and an equipment bay.

Fried: Crossville (TN) Ladder Truck May Be Total Loss After Electrical Accident

A three-year-old Crossville ladder truck may be a total loss after an electrical accident last month at Station 2 fried the apparatus, reports newstalk941.com.

A February 11 routine check by a senior firefighter was the root cause. He fully extended the ladder and contacted electrical lines adjacent to the facility, officials say. About 14,000 volts ran through the apparatus and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage. The radio station said the firefighter no longer works for the department.

The electrical system was fried and most of the ladder was burnt off, the report says. Officials say the department now needs to transport the ladder truck to the WI Pierce Refurbish Center, which is set to cost about $9,000 with insurance covering about $4,000.

The department’s Station 2.

Once Pierce receives the apparatus, it will prepare a damage assessment and figure out if it makes financial sense to fix. On the heels of the accident, a budget amendment needs to be made; the item will be considered by the Crossville City Council Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, but the department may suffer long-term impacts from the loss.

REV Ambulance Group Company Delivers All-Electric, Zero-Emission Ambulance to DocGo

REV Group, Inc. (NYSE: REVG) which includes companies that manufacture Horton®, AEV®, Road Rescue®, Wheeled Coach® and Leader® brand ambulances, announces the delivery of an all-electric, zero-emission ambulance to DocGo, a leading provider of last-mile mobile health services and integrated medical mobility.

Manufactured at Leader Emergency Vehicles in South El Monte, CA, this all-electric ambulance eliminates the pollution of a standard gasoline ambulance. In addition to being less harmful to the planet, the electric ambulance has the potential to lower patient transportation costs due to lower fuel costs and maintenance needs.

“We are committed to lead the industry in electric ambulances to meet the sustainability missions of our customers, such as DocGo’s goal to have an all-electric fleet by 2032,” said Anoop Prakash, president, REV Ambulance Group. “We’re delighted to help DocGo reach their target, with the support of our partner Lightning eMotors.”

Lightning eMotors, a leading provider of zero emissions medium duty commercial vehicles and electric vehicle technology for fleets, worked with Leader and DocGo to create the new vehicle. The Ford Transit T350 Type II ambulance chassis was electrified at Lightning eMotors and built at Leader’s facility. Leader’s High Roof Transit van offers up to 86 kWh of battery capacity that can be charged via Level 2 AC charging or DC fast charging. This model is equipped with dual rear wheels, increased interior headroom to aid crews in loading and unloading their patient, as well as an extended body length to provide more workspace for patient care.

“We are honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside Leader on this exciting initiative for DocGo,” said Nick Bettis, director of marketing and sales operations at Lightning eMotors. “In addition to being environmentally-friendly, the drastic reduction in pollutants is better for the overall health of the patients being transported.”

The DocGo delivery, along with recent orders from American Medical Response (AMR) and Hamad Medical Corporation (Qatar), further demonstrates REV’s leadership in bringing innovative technology to the EMS community.

Three Detroit (MI) Firefighters Injured in Apparatus Crash En Route to Structure Fire

Three Detroit firefighters and a truck driver were treated at a hospital Thursday afternoon following a collision on the city’s southwest side, reports detroitnews.com.

The firefighters were responding to reports of a structure fire when their engine collided with a truck near Fort and Springwells, officials say.

The fire turned out to be a false alarm, while the crash totaled the fire engine, which then required extrication, the report says.

The firefighters were evaluated and released with minor injuries, though all have been removed from work duties, according to the report. The truck driver also suffered minor injuries.

Police officials are investigating the crash.
