LaSalle (Ontario, Canada) Seeking Public Input on Three-Fire-Station Model

LaSalle (Ontario, Canada) is seeking public input on a potential plan to build two additional fire stations to keep up with the needs of a growing community, reports

The plan can be read below, and the public discourse can be found at placespeak.com.

“Join in the conversation. The public consultation for the Three Fire Station Model will be open until Sunday, March 6, 2022.

“Three fire stations in LaSalle means that we will improve levels of service over time to ensure we continue to meet standards. A three station model provides the Town with planned locations for fire stations that will align with the future needs of the Town’s forecasted growth and development. At the Regular Council meeting on January 25, 2022, Council approved administration’s report outlining a Three Fire Station Model for the Town of LaSalle. As outlined in the report, Scenario 3 was the preferred option as it provides a high percentage of coverage with the potential to meet the initial response performance benchmark, as 91% of historic urban calls are covered within the four minute travel time, and is based on properties which are owned by or anticipated to be available to the Town. Scenario 3 includes the following station locations:

  • “Station #1 – the current fire station located at 1900 Normandy Street

“In the original plans, the current station on Normandy Street was going to be closed, and a new station built along Disputed Road. Based on the most recent available planning and development information, future planned growth and intensification in the LaSalle Town Centre District, located within the response area of existing Station #1, indicates there are benefits to maintaining the existing station in its current location.

  • “Station #2 – the former Centennial Arena site at 2170 Front Road

“The Town of LaSalle already owns this land. This would be the first site for a second station.

  • “Station #3 – on Laurier Parkway, west of Disputed Road

“The exact location has not been determined. Locating a station on the grounds of the Vollmer Complex was explored. This location would provide less coverage to the east part of LaSalle. A fire station on Laurier Parkway just west of Disputed Rd. would provide better coverage for the east part of LaSalle.

“The need for additional fire station coverage has been a fire master plan recommendation since the Town of LaSalle Fire Master Plan Report 2008 by Dillon Consulting Services. Council received this plan in March 2009. In 2015, a Fire Master Plan Interim Review was approved by Council with the implementation of recommendations subject to Council approval and budget allocations at the time of proposed implementation.

“In 2017, administration recommended a second fire station location at John Dupuis Park on Hazel St., formerly Colonel Bishop School, which was turned down by Council. With the fire master plan being close to 10 years old, administration then engaged Dillon consulting to review and update the plan, including identifying possible locations for an additional fire station.

“In August 2019, the Town of LaSalle Fire Protection Services Master Plan (FPSMP) provided by Dillon Consulting was adopted by Council. Within this plan, the proposed two station model included a fire station located in the area of Matchette Rd. and Laurier Dr., and future development of a headquarters in the area of Laurier Parkway, west of Disputed Rd. This plan required the purchase of property that has been challenging and not yet possible.

“In mid-2021, adminis

New Highland Park (IL) Fire Station Highlights $12.75M Improvement Plan

Highland Park City Council recently approved the issuance of $12.75 million in general obligation bonds to finance capital projects, highlighted by a new fire station in the Ravinia District.

City officials also signed off on bids to build a replacement for Station 32 at 692 Burton Ave.

Of the issued funds, $8 million is earmarked for the fire station, with $4.5 million set aside for sewer and street work. The remainder will be used to cover the cost of issuing the bonds.

The principal and interest for the fire station and street work will come via the city’s property tax levy.

Mount Morris (NY) Fire District Takes Delivery of $318k Tanker

The Mount Morris (NY) Fire District has taken delivery of a $318,000 2021 Kenworth/Fouts Brothers 3,000-gallon tanker.

One of six trucks in the district’s fleet and the first new one in almost 30 years, the apparatus replaces a 1993 truck, according to a report in thelcn.com. The apparatus boasts a back-up camera, as well as all state-of-the-art equipment.

The only problem with the new apparatus’ predecessor, officials say, was finding obsolete replacement parts. It otherwise worked fine, they said.

The department is hoping to replace its 2002 pumper next, the report says.
