Police Envy? No, It’s Helena’s (AL) New Husky Blue Fire Engine

The City of Helena is always looking for ways to show its sense of community. So what better way for the fire department to get in on the act then to use the school colors – Husky Blue – in the paint scheme of the new fire engine.

Fire Chief Pete Valenti told the Shelby County Reporter that the idea for the paint scheme started with the mayor, who suggested a white paint job with husky blue striping. But the idea grew on him, and he suggested going all the way with the blue engine.

The engine was unveiled on Monday and goes into service soon in Station 1.

Driver Crashes into Cal Fire Station

A driver in a work pickup went off the road and ran into the Cal Fire building on Old Highway 80 near Pine Valley Road around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, reports sandiegouniontribune.com.

Firefighters were woken up by a loud boom, which caused minor damage to the facility, the report says. They went to investigate the noise and found that a Chevy Silverado had slammed into the side of their station.

Officials say the station’s sleeping quarters are right above the point of impact.

The driver was extricated, and, after being checked out by paramedics, he was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the report. California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
