Sheriff’s office contributes more than 30 deputies to Nakia Creek Fire response

Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to 88 calls for service and made four arrests in areas under evacuation notices during the height of the Nakia Creek Fire, the sheriff’s office reports. Between Oct. 16 and Oct. 21, 31 patrol personnel and two commanders worked additional voluntary hours in the evacuation area, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Update: Hot spots continue at Moses Lake fertilizer plant that was destroyed by fire

More than a week after fire destroyed the Wilbur Ellis fertilizer plant outside Moses Lake, health officials are still advising people to stay away from the area. In a health advisory Monday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said cleanup crews remain on the site about three miles southeast of Moses Lake extinguishing and removing smoldering debris.

Teenagers racing cars in Issaquah ends in crash; 4 sent to hospital

VIDEO: A car crash in Issaquah sent four people to the hospital late on Monday evening. According to the Washington State Patrol, two cars were racing on Highlands Drive Northeast at Discovery Drive around 11:18 p.m. They failed to stop at a red light as a third driver was turning left on a green signal.

Resource tent for I-90 homeless encampment receives temporary permit from Spokane Fire Department

KREM 2 has learned that the resource tent set up by Jewel's Helping Hands for the I-90 homeless camp can now operate legally. On Oct. 27, the Spokane Fire Department granted the tent a special event/evaluation permit, meaning that the tent can operate legally until June 2023. Originally set up in July 2022 as a cooling center for people living at the encampment, the tent has since expanded into a place where campers can get housing resources and support.

After years of resistance, Spokane joins regional 911 communications system

After years of resistance from the firefighters union and the City Council, Spokane has joined the regional emergency communications system that answers every 911 call made in the county. Spokane Regional Emergency Communications at 6 p.m. Monday absorbed the city of Spokane’s fire dispatch services.
